The 'Ram Sisters' Lin Dai-zhen and Chen Tzu-yu, who became paralyzed from the waist down in the Kaohsiung gas explosion 4 years ago, named themselves after their perspective from wheelchairs looking up at the world. They were set to depart on July 5th for Australia to compete in the Gold Coast Marathon full 42K race, but a local tourism bureau sponsor suddenly withdrew sponsorship, citing EVA Air's strike as the reason for no available seats. However, insiders reveal that tickets would have been available through other airlines, but the sponsor simply walked away without further effort.
The Ram Sisters also posted on Facebook: "Please don't abandon us, sponsors who were kind enough to support us. We really want to go to the Gold Coast Marathon in Australia and finish the race." The Ram Sisters support workers fighting for their rights, but they've trained extensively for this race. Last week they even practiced at the Dapeng Bay track, their hands worn raw, making it difficult to even open a water bottle.
Insiders revealed that if the sponsor had genuinely apologized, it would be one thing. But given how hard they trained, the sponsor showed no consideration for people with disabilities, simply shrugging their shoulders and abandoning them with an attitude of "We already sponsored your flights and accommodations, why are you being so troublesome?" Although the Ram Sisters' flights and accommodations are now being handled by others and they can depart smoothly, the communication process revealed their true intentions—whether this was really about tourism marketing or about helping them.
The Ram Sisters believe that good things come to those who wait, and will continue pushing forward, never bowing to failure.
