On the 17th, Ms. Lin from Taipei brought her family's Chihuahua "Juby" to a pet grooming shop for a bath. The shop had clear signage outside stating that customers must not open the safety door themselves and should ring the bell or call for staff if needed. However, another woman directly opened the door, causing "Juby" to rush out and run toward the alley, where the dog was hit by a car and tragically died.
"When the shop staff told the customer that the dog had escaped and been hit by a car because she recklessly opened the door, she didn't care at all and said 'That's because their dog wasn't well-behaved,' and 'It's just bad luck for the dog,'" Ms. Lin recalled the woman's attitude, still angry and heartbroken about what happened that day.
On the day of the incident, Ms. Lin took three-year-old "Juby" and her mother "Dew Dew" to the pet grooming shop for a bath. The shop had clearly posted a sign on the glass door that read "Please do not open the door yourself. If you need something, please ring the bell or call for staff." However, a 60-year-old woman, apparently not noticing the sign, pulled her own dog and recklessly opened three safety doors to enter. Although the groomer quickly tried to stop the woman, both Chihuahuas had already escaped through the gap.

The pet groomer was very panicked and chased after them, trying to bring the dogs back. But after just crossing one intersection, "Juby" was hit by a car and died on the spot. Ms. Lin said that "Dew Dew" was luckier, running through five intersections in a row and hiding in a nearby shop's storage room, avoiding being hit by a car. But recalling the entire incident has left her heartbroken and devastated, because this woman who caused the accident also owns a dog herself, yet showed complete indifference to the dog that was hit and killed. Even when she called the pet shop back, she immediately asked "When can my dog be groomed?" and even snapped back, "It's her dog that wasn't well-behaved."

Afterward, Ms. Lin chose to file a police report and is pursuing the matter under the Criminal Code charge of "destruction of property" with an additional civil compensation claim. The pet shop owner and the woman have both made statements, but the woman still seems to be evading responsibility. Although the Animal Protection Law currently has no relevant regulations or penalties for this, Ms. Lin still hopes to seek justice through legal means.
