A video circulating online today shows an elderly man driving a three-wheel truck with a dog being dragged behind it. Initially, many people accused him of animal abuse, and media outlets reported on it. The elderly man made several calls to different media organizations hoping to contact the person involved to correct the story.
"Why does 'the person who filmed it' say I'm abusing the dog? I love him very much and treat him well." Because of my work handling news, I was able to get Mr. Chen's phone number. I called him multiple times to hear his explanation and understand the situation better.

That evening, Mr. Chen explained through tears. On the morning of the 10th, he was heading out to set up a stall at Qixingtan. His dog "Duo Duo," whom he had raised for over a year, had been abandoned by a previous owner. Fearing he would disappear again, the dog insisted on following Mr. Chen everywhere every day, never letting him out of sight.
However, that day, he placed "Duo Duo" on the cargo truck with coconuts stacked quite high inside. Somewhere during the journey, the dog fell from the vehicle. Because the truck was noisy, he didn't realize it had fallen. He only heard a driver behind him honking repeatedly. When the driver got out of his vehicle, Mr. Chen learned that his dog was injured and immediately took him to the veterinarian.

As shown on the receipt with "wounds on all four limbs," the dog has already been bandaged and is resting at home. After seeing the video, Mr. Chen only then realized his dog had been dragged for so long. Seeing it broke his heart. It wasn't intentional abuse, yet he's been accused of abusing the dog, leaving him very helpless.
Mr. Chen said he is 52 years old and has various health issues. He makes a living selling coconut water at Qixingtan, and even has to climb trees himself to pick coconuts for inventory. "Duo Duo" is a dog he found at Qixingtan over a year ago.
At that time, "Duo Duo" had many skin conditions. Mr. Chen bought medicine from a pharmacy and gave him medicated baths daily. After two weeks, he was fully healed. Mr. Chen says, "I would never abandon him. He's very well-behaved." Every night, "Duo Duo" must stick to Mr. Chen's side to sleep, and during the day he follows him to Qixingtan to set up the stall.
"Many customers love playing with him," Mr. Chen describes. His customers enjoy deep-sea fishing, and every time they come ashore, they share fresh fish with "Duo Duo," who becomes very happy.

This incident has left Mr. Chen very frustrated. He feels terrible that his dog was injured and hasn't dared to set up his stall all day. But he also wants to clarify to everyone that he treats his dog very well. Every morning at ten o'clock he goes to sell coconut water at the second parking lot of Qixingtan, staying until five or six in the afternoon. Everyone is welcome to come visit them.
